Marble Racer

Shades of discolored white

Mix on the horizon

Obscuring golden sun

Between ice and sky

For another gray day

Where my soul

Still beats on

And falls

Down the spiral

A little further

Every day

Towards the inevitable

Slowly dwindle?

Sudden and forceful?

End

What will cause

Life’s marble

To cease rolling

Along the golden tracks

And to be lost

In the dark recesses

Forever gone

Under the refrigerator

The Box Cutter

The blade is quick

Against flesh

Silver

Sharp

For once

Not dull

Chipped

Or muck covered

From tape residue

Like all those years ago

A quick slash

Red line follows

Not too deep

Just enough

To cause pain

Surfacing emotions

Tears

That don’t emerge

Without inflictions

A mark

Upon soul

And flesh

Everlasting

Until the scar

Imposed on the earth

Fades with time

– James Dubeau

Unable To Can

I can’t

I won’t

I don’t

Even know why

I just sit there

Unable to focus

Unable to work

Unable to complete the tasks

Laid out before me

I’m broken

Unable to can

Just floating

Through the day

Hoping to get by

Without any extra

Drain upon my soul

Diminishing the light

Further

Than

Ever

Before

– James Dubeau
