These Are Our Days

Daylight savings
Full moon
Pandemic declaration
Friday the 13th
And pie day

A week
Full of it all
And had felt like
The end of times

Daylight savings
Ended
Full moon
Again
Global pandemic
Still ongoing
On Halloween
With an election upcoming
To round it all out

A year
Full of it all
And still feels like
The end of times
Are upon us
If not
Even more so
Now

– James Dubeau

Two Beer Time

Quitting time

Is here again

And once again

I’m sipping some beers

Immediately

Upon leaving

The clock

Just as I had done

Every work day

Since the beginning

Weekends too

Going through

The back catalog

To divide time

Between work

And private

Without leaving home

Or even

The couch

– James Dubeau

Six Months

Six months
Since pen touched paper
Six months
Since words freely flowed
Six months
Since I last gave a damn
About this passion
That once upon a time
Brought me joy
It’s time
For passions to return
Not all at once
Not too sudden
I couldn’t handle that
But slowly
Day by day
Word by word
Passions shall return

– James Dubeau

Can It Be Sunny Please?

For a few moments
It looked sunny outside
Like it was going to be
A decent day
But the wind blew in
Bringing the clouds
And the cold
And the gloom
Tomorrow shall be worse
As I fear
Even though
I’ll need to get outside
Into fresh air
For a moment or two
To keep my sanity

– James Dubeau

Rain Has Returned

Rain has returned
To the gloomy land
Signs of spring
On the horizon
Wet will melt
Remaining snow
Clearing the paths
For better or ill
I’ve been running
Outside again
If only the cold
Would stay away
As the mornings
Become brighter
With Spring’s return

– James Dubeau
