Clad in Black

Once upon a time
There was this kid
Who never fit in
Except
With the freaks and geeks
Hiding in dark recesses
Away from mocking eyes
Belittling them
For loving science
Math
And all school subjects
Clad all in black
Head to toe
Winter to summer
Black shirt
Black jeans
Black combat boots
Easier to disappear
In those shadows
Away from the jocks
Preps
Frat boys
And hurtful people
But
As time goes on
Life rolls by
Long gone is school
Replaced
By jobs
Wife
Kids
Old habits die hard
Wardrobe
Which picks itself
All one color
Easy for the modern male
But
Old boots run hard
Tearing upon feet
Aches and pains
Upon aging bodies
Only to be replaced
Crisp
Clean
New
Fresh
White
Running shoes
